Class Descriptions: July, August, September 2005

About our classes: 

1. In order for instructors to plan, we need you to pre-register and pre-pay. You may do this in the store, via the internet, or over the phone. (702) 878-0068 

2. All class registration fees are refundable up to seven days before the class start date. 

3. We reserve the right to cancel a class and refund your fees if the class is not filled. 

4. Some classes may require the purchase of additional supplies. 

Please bring basic sewing supplies to class. These include scissors, pins, thread, needles, rotary cutter and mat, seam ripper, ruler, pen or pencil and notepad. If you are bringing your sewing machine, please be familiar with your machine and have it in good working order.

Many of you have said you’ve avoided taking classes because you didn’t want to drag your heavy sewing machine to class. We have the answer for you! We now carry the Janome Jem Gold 2 and they will be available for your use in our classes. When you sign up for a class just be sure to let us know if you’d like to borrow one of these great little machines, and we’ll set one up for you. You may want to come a little early to familiarize yourself with it’s use - manuals will be provided - but we think you’ll find it an easy and enjoyable machine to use.

Hand Quilting & More
Teacher: Wilma
Class Fee: $28.50
All you need is a pencil ,paper, scissors and thimble to bring to class. A $5.00 kit fee will be paid to Wilma. You will learn to not only hand quilt but also how to bind your project with mitered corners.

Hometown USA

Class Fee: $30.00
This sample was made with patriotic fabrics but you can choose the colors that work for you. This quilt is a combination of log cabin and house blocks. Sure to be a favorite.

Big Bag

This is the class you have been waiting for. Join Wilma in making this bag that holds rulers, mats, quilts and projects to take to class. Two sessions so you have sewing time between classes. Teacher to supply pattern.

August Classes

Beginning Quilting
Teacher: Cher
Class Fee: $60.00
This is the class you need to learn the basics. Cher will teach you the vocabulary, the tools and proven techniques. Cher knows all the shortcuts and tips to insure that you can make your first quilt.

T-Shirt Memory Quilt

What do you do with that drawer (closet) full of T-shirts that your kids outgrew but you just can’t bear to part with? Make a quilt! Cher will teach you how to make a memory and also discuss setting options.

Beginning Appliqué

Come learn hand appliqué from the best! Wilma will teach you different methods and you will choose which one works best for you. Just show up with thimble and scissors. A $5.00 kit fee will be paid to the teacher.

All the stories you have heard are true! We have a great time- sewing, eating, basting, quilting, eating and sharing. Did we mention eating? If you want quality sewing time join us for the entire night or just part of it. Bring a snack to share!

Picture Piecing
Teacher: Cindy
Class Fee: 20.00
Create realistic pictures in cloth from one of Cynthia England’s patterns. These intricate pieced wall hangings are much easier than they look. Only straight seams. Cindy will also give you tips on quilting and even hanging your masterpiece.

California Jacket

Start with a sweatshirt, add a collar, cuffs, pockets and binding and what do you have? A beautiful jacket to wear with almost anything. Join Wilma in this two session class and create your original wearable art.

September Classes

Cotton Pickin’ Quilt

Class Fee: $35.00
This cheery quilt is easy, fun and fast to make. It looks great scrappy or not. You will make snowball, nine patches, four patches put them on point. This two session class will allow you time to sew in between classes.

Bargello in the Round

Have you ever made a Bargello? Try making it round! Learn the technique from Jerrine and make a stunning wall hanging. So many possibilities.

Boondoggled/Trendy or Crazy

Have you ever been boondoggled by a ruler? Join Jerrine and she will teach you how to use the ruler while making a fun, easy quilt.

Quilts without Corners (Butterfly)

Want to make a round quilt? Learn to use the 10 degree ruler and a shortcut to make a perfect ¼” strip. The fabric choices are endless.

Featherweight – Loving Care for your Singer

Don’t be afraid to care for your Singer Featherweight. Come to class and Wilma will teach you how to clean, lubricate and adjust the tension for a perfect stitch.
